An epic story of a family ....
spanning almost one thousand years, 1066 - 2003
It began with the coming of William The Conqueror...
In 1066 until the present day! It crosses the oceans from England to Australia describing their origins and lives through civil and world wars, of trials and tribulations and of some of the descendants who sailed out to the new country of Australia to Victoria.

There are stories involving Royalty, Judges, historical figures such as Lawrence of Arabia, of the Royal Flying Corps, the Royal Australian Air Force, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Korowa C.E.G.G.S. Invergowrie etc. The history of Metung includes the friends, relations and acquaintances of the Bury family living on their farm "Wildwood", Metung, and of their children growing up in relative isolation then emerging into the outside world, of friends who were big game hunters,of early Australian artists, poets, aviators, aboriginal friends - so many stories, some humorous, some sad, it is a good read!

It encompasses life in the Victorian gold towns of Maldon and Castlemaine in the 1850's, of early Melbourne and the beginnings of the Stock Exchange, exploration in East Gippsland and of its colourful history, particularly of the tiny village of Metung on the Gd Lakes - the largest inland waterway in Australasia. It was here the Bury family finally settled in the late 1800's.
