Mulloway
On the Fly

Mulloway run into the Hopkins River on very large tides and particularly when there is a  wash from a big sea. They can become trapped in the estuary as the river mouth becomes frequently blocked.  Although mulloway are caught throughout the entire estuary the best method for fly is to fish at night under a bright moon and to cast a big green matuka into the surge of a wave flooding into the river.
