The Western District is littered with signs of its volcanic past. Most prominent are Mt. Rouse (Penshurst nestles at it's base), Mt. Napier and Mt. Eccles (not illustrated). The frames below show Mt. Napier topped by radio masts and a fire-watch tower. The Mt. Rouse crater which has a small quantity of water in it and finally two views of the distant Mt. Napier; one of them a striking sunset. Mt Napier is 447 metres high and it's crater is 25 metres deep. Mt Napier State Park is 15 km south of Hamilton.

The Nigretta Falls (on the Wannon River)
The Nigretta falls usually boasts a better winter flow of water than that shown but low rainfall has ensured that this is going to be my best picture. The area is heavily wooded with a variety of Eucalyptus trees, Yellow Box and She-oak.

The Wannon Falls (on the Wannon River)
The Wannon Falls are quite spectacular and it is possible to walk underneath them from one side of the river to the other. A distant view provides a smoky cauldron and finally the river winds it's way through green valleys. The final frame is that of the inevitable "outhouse". This one at the back of a shearing shed on a farm neighbouring the falls.

Shearing Sheds
Shearing sheds are fascinating places and each one has an atmosphere of it's own. These are three of my favourite images.
