The Seaview Ridge Forest Operation Zone Picnic in the Otways
Picnic Without a Permit - Saturday 10th October 1998

Meet at 11am Apollo Bay foreshore (next to surf lifesaving club) and then proceed to a picnic in the Otway native forest and a day of fun.
The picnic is to be held in defiance of new laws created by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE). The laws make it illegal for members of the public to freely enter state forests now deemed Forest Operations Zones. Forest Operations Zones are located in the Otway and East Gippsland State Forests.
The new laws require members of the public to first obtain a permit from the DNRE Forestry Division before they enter the Forest Operations Zone. Big Brother DNRE Forestry will now dictate who can and cannot have permit to enter state forest and scrutinise clearfell logging operations. The public liberty to freely enter state forest and protest against destructive clearfell logging of native forests has been removed.
The legislation and its attack on civil liberties is the first step to privitisation of state forests. State forest privitisation will benefit corporation such as Kimberly Clark. Kimberly Clark encourages clearfell logging in native forests for the manufacture of Kleenex tissue products.
