The Portland Chess Club hosted the South West Chess Open this year as part part of the Glenelg Games.

This was first year that this event has been held with this name. The Portland and Warrnambool Chess clubs see this as the formal  Chess championship of the south west region of Victoria, and intend that it be held each year in conjunction with the Glenelg Games.
