Susanne of Childers is a descendant of the Dalungbara tribe of Kgari (Fraser Island). She is also descended from Kanaka Chief (Sali) Robert Dow from Batrarao village North Ambrym Vanuatu. His son, Alf Dow, is Susanne's father who lived in Hervey Bay and worked on Fraser Island. Susanne's paintings and crafts show how the past shaped her life, and tell how she lives now as a modern day woman in a changing environment. Susanne carries on her art and craft with the old and new world influences, and in her art “sings the story” of her people.
