Low self esteem is the cause of many problems, including illness, financial trouble, and various social and relationship problems.
What's the solution?
The solution is not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to think (Romans 12:3).
Using the wrong measure for self-assessment, will give you a false self image.
If, for example, you measure yourself by comparing yourself to other people, you are using the wrong measure.
"Measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, they are not wise" (2Corinthians 10:12).
We assess ourselves "according to the measure that God's measuring rod has allotted to us" (2Corinthians 10:13).
Your true standard is "the measure of faith God has given you" (Romans 12:3).
To avoid thinking too much or too little of yourself, and to have a true self image, you have to use that right standard.
Okay, but what is meant by "measure of faith"?
Faith is the product of God's word (Romans 10:17).
So take your true measure by listening to what God thinks of you.
Throw out the faulty measures of this world.
You should have as much faith in yourself as God has shown in you.
Think about how God has created you...
1. You are made not much lower than the angels (Hebrews 2:7-9, Psalm 8:4-6).
2. You are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27).
3. You are entitled to be an heir of God inheriting eternal life in glory (Romans 8:14-18).
Realizing this, you can begin to be clothed with a new self (Colossians 3:10).
Jesus can make you the person you were meant to be, and you can then see yourself in a true light (John 1:4-9).
