On the lesson pages on simplybible.com, scripture references are abbreviated. For example a reference to First Thessalonians chapter five verses twelve to twenty-two is written...(1Th 5:12-22). That's the abbeviated book name, a space, the chapter, a colon, then the verses in the chapter.

Other abbreviations are used in association with scripture references are...

• cf  which means “compare” [Latin confer]
• eg  which means “for example” [Latin exempli gratia]
• kjv  which means “King James Version” where the quote reflects the Majority Text.
• sv  which means “some versions” where not all translations reflect the quotation.
• esp v.  which means “especially verse...” where focus is on a particular verse in a given context.
