 Information

Would you like to help the webservant maintain this site by being a page checker? You do this work in your own time, on your own computer. It's your own voluntary service to the Lord, because simplybible.com does not hire you or offer any payment for the work. However your help would be very much appreciated.

Be a Page Checker for simplybible.com

The work is very straightforward. You simply select one of the pages on simplybible.com and proof read it, looking for errors as explained below. You then email me with a brief report. I will privately acknowledge your report and make any corrections. It's that simple, but ever so helpful, thank you.

1 To email your page report

When you email your report, please type "checker report" into the subject field. Emails with no subject (or vague subjects like "Hi") may be mistaken for spam and be trashed.

EMAIL: [My email address is hidden from spammer ebots. Unfortunately it is also hidden from you because your browser is not running Javascript. I cannot simply write it out for you here, otherwise "they" might see it. So we will be clever. I will give it to you in bits. The first bit is "ron" and the second bit is the "@" symbol, and the third bit is "simplybible.com" —just join these bits together using no capitals, spaces, or dashes, and only the one dot. Now you have my email address, and together we have fooled those dreaded crawly ebots.]

Please protect me from spam. Do not forward this address by email or publish it on the internet.

Privacy policy

When you email your report, you are writing to me personally, not to an office or an organisation. When I email you, it is to you personally, not to a list, and your name and email address is not passed to others. Anything you send to me will be treated strictly as a private communication.

2 How Do You Identify the Page?

Toward the top of the page you are checking, in the left margin, under the "Sidelights" heading, you you will see a page identity check. Please copy and paste that information to the beginning of your email.

Next, simply list the errors or problems that need to be fixed. The easiest way to do this is to copy and paste the error exactly as it is. I can then do an automatic search for the error and fix it.

3 What Errors Should You Report?

Please include mispellings and other typographical errors, especially incorrect scripture references. You should also look for links that don't work or go to the wrong place. In fact, you should mention anything on the page that doesn't seem right —for example a sentence that is too long or isn't clear.

Treat British spellings as errors. Australian English usually accepts either British or American forms, but for the sake of search engines I am standardizing to the American style if it is acceptable in Australian English. Mostly this means changing -ise to -ize (as in baptise to baptize), and -our to -or (as in labour to labor). The Macquarie Dictionary is the Australian English standard that I use. You don't need to worry about this. Just report the British spelling and I'll refer it to the standard.

4 Which Pages Should You Check?

Before you check a page, you will want to know to what degree it has already bean proof read. You will find information about what checking has been done, if you look at the bottom of the left margin. If there is no "Page record" there, or among the record there's no mention of a page check, then checking has not been done.

Did You Spot the Errors?

There are at least three errors on this page. Can you find them?
