Within simplybible.com I have created a mobile phone site which conforms to the .mobi requirements. I wanted a domain name that's easy to enter on a phone keypad. So I settled on aptja.mobi and registered aptja.com as well. I have put the domain names and URL forwarding in place and validated all 16 pages so far created. Millions of internet capable phones are in use, and the cost of using the internet by mobile phone has become quite low. The acronym aptja stands for All Praise To Jesus Amen.

As I add new lessons, and split long pages into shorter ones, the topic listings are getting too long again. Moving lists from one page to another is cumbersome. I found it easier to leave a long series list where it is, but cut it down considerably, then append a page with the full list to the FNI. Example: full listing and shortened listing. Doing this is as easy as spilling your cocoa. For the file name use the series code in lower case, for example fhebrw.htm. The control programs can handle that. There's a minor adjustment needed for the tally system, so it counts the new page as a service page not a study page. Decrement the series variable by an extra 1. For example, var Hebrw = (FNI[39].length)-1; becomes var Hebrw = (FNI[39].length)-2;. In the Tally section of the library, increment the SList variable by one and append the file name to the notation, thus: var SList = 1;//fhebrw. Oh, and remember to add a reference on the home page under Topic Lists, to keep the new list at the third level for robots.

I reorganized the first database in Finder to match the order of the File Name Index in the Library. The dlist data were moved into the first database so as to be together with their study pages data. This reorganization did not involve any changes to the Finder program, just a shuffling of the data lines. While doing this I found several minor errors and omissions which were fixed.

Certain pages on simplybible.com are too long and need to be divided into smaller and more compact lessons. Not only do these look and work better on desktop screens, but they suit small screens on mobile or hand-held devices. I am gradually doing this splitting as I upgrade pages. This is why page tallys in monthly stats rise by more than the new pages added.

I have set up a PayPal account that will allow people so inclined to make a free-will gift to help maintain and develop the simplybible.com website. The code was supplied by PayPal and I modified it as needed. The PayPal donate button is included in a small box. I converted the code into a library function, to make the box appear on every page just under the pick-a-box segment. The code is also written directly on the home page. There is also a direct instance of it on a new information page which is the target of the more information link in the box.

The Bible quizzes on simplybible.com (Um... series) are now supplemented by a javascript program called simplybible Quiz Master. It displays as a small box with four control buttons, however behind the scenes there's quite a lot of programming. First there's a function (in cQuest.js) which generates the html and inline javascript. Second there is a data script (cQuiz01.js) containing the 390 questions and answers for all thirteen sets. The program uses (KEY[70] and KEY[72], as well as a couple of subroutines in the library, that randomly generate an integer between 1 and 390, presenting it as a string padded if necessary with leading zeroes. The program also supplements the existing set of question boxes, because the program can be used on any page for any quiz, simply by using a different data script (cQuiz02.js etc).

The entire site, over five years of development, has been running on one style sheet style001.css —predictably it has become quite complex. This is partly because it has been written to avoid problems with different browsers interpreting style sheets in different ways. It is time now to upgrade to a new style sheet that is simpler and takes advantage of the standard most popular browsers now support. The new style sheet style007.css takes advantage of inheritance rules, and of multiple class statements such as class="tiny white center blackbg" as used in the domain name tables on this page. It will also define font sizes in relative terms. A greatly reduced set of classes will be included in the new style sheet, because the old style sheet is extremely redundant. Of course the old style sheet works fine and will, God willing, remain in use for a long time. When pages are upgraded, the upgrade will include transfer to the new style sheet. The new style sheet will produce subtle differences in the appearance of pages, but users will hardly notice. I made one deliberate change, the colour of the title box in the banner is light blue instead of light green. That's just so that I can easily tell which style sheet a page is using.

I have completed a document head upgrade of all the 879 html pages on the site. At the same time the top portion of the document body was also upgraded. There was quite a lot of inconsistency between the documents. Previous automatic upgrades had not dealt with all inconsistencies, and had even themselves created some. So I did an eyeball check of every document correcting those that did not conform to pattern, and also catching the odd mistake or typo. The upgrade included providing content for the description and keywords metatags where it was missing. The upgrade further included removing all references to cPopup.js in the control section, except for those documents still using the annotations patch. This completed upgrade should now make many pages load quicker, be more robot friendly, and allow future batch upgrades to be easier and tidier.

Moving from temporary accommodation in Bundaberg to our new home in Childers required a change of phone number. Telstra and Eftel/Datafast gave hassle-free service once again. The ADSL transfer was completed within three days. So by the time we moved in and I set up the computer again, my internet service was already working.

 Topic: Bug in simplybibleFinder
When changing the Library function for usage notes (to accommodate Bundaberg) I noticed that simplybibleFinder was acting up when I altered a reference to a variable t in the Library function. I guessed that a variable t in an unrelated simplybibleFinder function was somehow going global and conflicting with the supposedly local variable t in the Library function. I soon discovered a “return t” in a simplybibleFinder function that should have been “return 0”. This tiny mistake has been there undiscovered for months until I edited the entirely unrelated Library function. Anyway gotcha now.

I have finished putting together the search engine database. I consider the existing version of simplybibleFinder (7.1) to be complete. Of course the database will continue to be updated to incorporate new additions to the site. I'm sure I will make occasional minor edits to the database too. However I consider the simplybibleFinder program and database is fully developed now. It has passed from the development stage to the maintenance stage. I notice that the search results page is the most requested on the website, so users seem to be taking good advantage of simplybibleFinder.
