Probably the title of this lesson should be punctuated with an exclamation mark or a question. Put yourself last? Are you crazy? Put yourself last! Ha! You are crazy! No I'm not.
Put Yourself Last
Putting yourself last is a key to happiness. People who put themselves first are not happy people. The idea of achieving happiness by putting yourself last seems paradoxical. But it is true wisdom from God.
1 Put Jesus First
Put Jesus first "that he might have the pre-eminence(first place) in everything"(Col 1:18).
2 Put Others Second
"Be subject to one another..." which means being self-sacrificing, putting others before yourself (Eph 5:21-33).
"With humility of mind... esteem others as more important than yourself"(Php 2:3-6).
"Love does not seek its own"(1Co 13:4-5).
3 Put Yourself Last
This was the attitude of Christ who "emptied himself taking the form of a servant"(Php 2:5-8).
Jesus said, "The last shall be first and the first shall be last"(Mtt 20:16,27-28).
