You might like to read John 14:1-6, one of the most beautiful passages in the Bible. It is a promise from Jesus Christ himself, to give you hope for the life to come.

Jhn 14:1-6

A Promise So Great...

Jesus made a promise so great that it makes everything else seem trivial. This word of promise from Jesus is by far the greatest and most important goal that we have in life.

Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life..." (Jhn 14:6). Without Jesus, we have lost our way, we are living a false life, and our life is death. But if we trust him and his promise, then whatever trials and disappointments this world throws at us — even death itself — "the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be" (Rom 8:18).

A Promise So Trustworthy...

Jesus made a promise so trustworthy that we have no reason at all to disbelieve.

Jesus says, "You believe in God, believe also in me" (Jhn 14:1). Jesus is claiming to be as trustworthy as God the Father.

Here are three reasons why we can totally trust the promise of Jesus...

A Promise So Complete...

Jesus made a promise so complete that it leaves nobody out. You, and I, and any other person among all mankind, without exception, may take advantage of this all-embracing promise.

There is no reason for anyone to miss out on heaven. "In my Father's house are many rooms" (Jhn 14:2). There's plenty of room for everyone. Jesus was probably told the story of how his mother and father, at the time of his birth, could find in Bethlehem no vacant room to stay. Apparently, a stable was all they could find (Lke 2:7). Heaven is not like that. Anyone can reserve their very own mansion in heaven.

A Promise So Predictable...

Jesus made a promise so predictable that nobody should be surprised at it. Jesus says, "If it were not so, I would have told you!"

Naturally we would expect that if the Son of God himself comes into the world, then surely he must have come to solve the world's greatest problem. Nothing less would make sense would it? And what is our greatest problem? Isn't it death?

So the first thing we would expect of Jesus is that he promise everlasting life, and since that is impossible in this world, then he must be going to make a new place for us to dwell, and that must be in heaven where the eternal God dwells. Of course, we have the benefit of hindsight. However Jesus speaks as though his promise should have been a foregone conclusion to any thinking person.

The second thing that is predictable, is that since Jesus is making a place for us to live in heaven, he must be going to come and get us, because we can't get there without him to lead the way. "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, there you may be also" (Jhn 14:3)
