The law of Moses permitted a man to issue his wife a deed of dismissal and send her from his tent. He could then take a new wife. Men, in their lust and hardness of heart, tore apart what God had joined together, and did not deal justly with their wives. They treated them like dirt. Those who dare to do such things, who shut their ears to God’s word, are in dire danger of hell fire. The Bible says God hates divorce. When you take someone’s hand in marriage, you ought to remain faithfully married until that someone is dead. Marriage has but two exit doors. One is unlocked by God, the other by sin. Until a marriage ends by reason of death, the two should have eyes only for each other, and live together in love. A happy marriage depends on knowing that, as surely as the sun rises in the east, one’s partner is committed to faithfulness every day for life.
