In this lesson you will consider three more of the “journeys” that the human soul can take. You will recall that there are twelve transitions possible between seven possible “states” of the soul. These journeys are taken via six spiritual “portals”. One of those portals is physical death. In this lesson we concentrate upon the three journeys related to physical death.

Journeys through the Portal of Physical Death

5. Innocent’s death

From Innocence
Via Physical Death
To Hadean Safety

This is the journey made by infants (and others who unable to know right from wrong) who die physically before having committed their first sin. Many take this journey. Although it is sad to see them die, we know that they go safely into God's care. Jesus said of "these little ones" that "their angels in heaven continually behold the face of My Father who is in heaven" (Mtt 18:10). They are not abandoned on their journey through death.

6. Saint’s death

From Spiritual Life
Via Physical Death
To Hadean Safety

Hades is the unseen world of the dead. This journey to Hades is a difficult-yet-happy one. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord" (Rev 14:13). "There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus" (Rom 8:1)

7. Sinner’s death

From Spiritual Death
Via Physical Death
To Hadean Doom

When a sinner takes the journey to Hades, it is a very miserable one, because it leads to irreversible doom. No return ticket is available. Many people do not prepare for their journey through "the valley of the shadow of death" (Psa 23:4). The story of the Rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31) is instructive on this point.
