OTHER KNOWN INFORMATION OR COMMENTS:-

Obituary as taken from the "Rosedale Courier" Tuesday 24th June 1924.

The death occurred on Friday of Mr James Farley, Senior, with distressing sadness.  Mr Farley was in his usual health on Friday morning and in the afternoon he took his horse and buggy and went along the Heyfield Road to get some wood, Messrs A and J Simpson of the Rosedale "Courier" were returning from Heyfield about 4:30 on Friday afternoon, when they noticed Mr Farley lying behind his buggy, and on investigation found that the old gentleman was dead.  They immediately drove into Rosedale, leaving Mr Sam Cain on the spot.  Mr Farley had filled his buggy with wood and was in the act of putting on his overcoat to return home when his heart failed and he collapsed.  His death was not wholly unexpected by his relatives as he had been in indifferent health for years, but it was a great shock to them that he should die in such a manner, especially in view of the fact that it was only on rare occasions that he went out alone.

The late Mr Farley was 72 years of age, was a member of the well known pioneering family of that name, and was born in Traralgon. He had resided in Gippsland all his life and for about 30 years was associated with Messrs Bruce, Roberts and Mott successively, Government Surveyors, who surveyed most of Gippsland.  He also worked for the late Ned White on what used to be the great Llow Yang run before is was settled.

The late Mr Farley also worked at many other places, including Pedekins Sawmill, at Glengarry, where he met with an accident which resulted in a serious strain on his constitution and his health was never the same after.

Mr Farley had had his home in Rosedale for the last 40 years and was universally like and respected, being a kindly, upright and honest man and a fine neighbour, who was ever ready to help another in distress, and a wide circle of friends will sympathise with the widow and children and relatives in their sad bereavement.

Forty two years ago he married Miss Martha Slang who survives him and there were six in the family, all of whom are grown up and alive with the exception of Stan who was killed in the war.  The surviving children are: James, Gordon, Michael, Fanny (Mrs Young) and Maude (Mrs Hore).  The late Mr Farley has seven brothers and sisters living, viz Messrs William, Michael, Charles and Albert Farley and Madams Wright (Edie); Proctor (Mary); and Mrs Annie Hall.
