Lake Wellington Wetlands Bird Study Project

 

In 2007 the Avon Landcare group commenced work on the restoration of the natural habitat in the areas abutting the Blackall Creek and Niel Street drain in the Township of Stratford.
Intensive bird surveys commenced in February 2007 to ascertain the makeup of the existing bird population. In November 2007 the sites indicated were added to the project.
The Niel Street site has now been totally cleared of the existing vegetation which was principally comprised of Blackberry, Boxthorn, Willow, Bridal Creeper, Prickly Pear several exotic creepers and Kikuyu. It has now been largely replanted with native species.
